Privacy Policy
Jellyspot records where you go, what you photograph and how you move. That is about as personal as data gets — so the app is built so that none of it reaches us.
Last updated 20 August 2026
The short version. Your timeline, visits, photos, journal entries and health data are stored only on your device. There is no Jellyspot account and no Jellyspot server holding your content. We cannot read your journal, see your location history or recover your data, because we never receive it.
Who we are
Jellyspot is developed by Cloudy Day AB, Sweden. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to privacy@jellyspot.com.
This policy covers the Jellyspot app for iPhone and this website.
What the app collects, and where it goes
Jellyspot reads several kinds of information from your device in order to build your timeline. In every case the information is written to Jellyspot's own storage on that device and stays there.
Location
With your permission, Jellyspot records your location in the background. This is what allows visits, journeys and trips to appear on your timeline without you doing anything. Location history is stored on your device only.
Photos
With your permission, Jellyspot reads your photo library — specifically the date, location and other metadata attached to each photo — so that photos can be placed on the right day and at the right place. Photos are not copied to any server. Photos you take inside Jellyspot are saved to your photo library and to Jellyspot's local storage.
Health and fitness
With your permission, Jellyspot reads workouts, step counts and related metrics from Apple Health so they can be shown on your timeline. Jellyspot can also write journal-related data back to Health if you ask it to. Health data is never transmitted off the device.
Journal entries
Anything you write or photograph in your journal is stored locally. It is not backed up to us, not indexed by us, and not visible to anyone but you.
On-device processing
The machine learning that recognises places, groups visits into trips and produces your daily summaries runs entirely on your iPhone. Your data is not uploaded to be analysed.
Information that does leave your device
Three narrow exceptions exist, and this is all of them.
1. Apple Maps and Apple Weather lookups
To turn a coordinate into a place name, to draw a map, or to show what the weather was, Jellyspot sends that coordinate to Apple's Maps and Weather services. These requests are not linked to a Jellyspot identity, and neither we nor Apple store them against you. Apple's handling of this data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
2. Anonymous usage analytics
Jellyspot uses Aptabase, an open-source, privacy-focused analytics service hosted in the European Union, to understand how the app is used. The events sent are limited to app activity, such as:
- App launches and first launch
- Session start, end and duration
- Which screen was opened (the screen's name — never its contents)
- Timeline refreshes and how long a load took
- Subscription events: a purchase started, succeeded or failed, and status changes
These events carry no location, no photos, no journal text, no health data, no name, no email address and no advertising identifier. Aptabase does not use cookies or persistent device identifiers and does not track users across apps or sessions. We use this only to see which parts of the app are worth improving.
3. Feature requests
If you submit a feature request or comment through the feedback screen, that text is sent to WishKit, the service that runs Jellyspot's public feature-request board, so other users can see and vote on it. Only send content there that you're happy to have shown publicly. Nothing from your timeline or journal is attached.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment and holds the payment details; we never see your card number, billing address or Apple Account. We receive only the anonymous purchase events described above, and aggregate sales reporting from Apple. Subscription terms are governed by the Apple Standard EULA, and you can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings under your name → Subscriptions.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal information.
- We do not run advertising or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not build profiles of you or use your data to train models.
- We do not require an account, an email address or any sign-in.
Your control over your data
- Turn any source off. Location, Photos, Health and Notifications permissions can each be revoked at any time in iOS Settings, or in the Health app for health data. Jellyspot keeps working with less information.
- Delete everything. Deleting the Jellyspot app from your iPhone deletes the data it stored. Because we hold no copy, deletion is complete and irreversible — there is nothing for us to restore.
- Back up on your terms. Jellyspot's data is included in your device backups if you have them enabled. Those backups are handled by Apple, not by us.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability over personal data a company holds about you. In Jellyspot's case, the practical answer to most of these is that we hold no personal data about you to begin with — your content is in your hands, on your device. For the anonymous analytics described above, the data is not linked to you and cannot be traced back to you, so it cannot be retrieved or deleted individually.
If you believe we hold something about you and want it addressed, contact privacy@jellyspot.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority; in Sweden this is IMY.
Children
Jellyspot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
This website
jellyspot.com is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and embeds no third-party trackers. Your web host's standard server logs may record ordinary request information such as IP address and browser type.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects how your information is handled, note it in the app. Continued use of Jellyspot after a change means you accept the updated policy.
