Privacy Policy
Jellyspot records where you go, who you see, what you photograph and how you move. That is about as personal as data gets — so the app is built so that none of it reaches us.

The short version. Your timeline, visits, journal, people, places and health data are stored only on your device. There is no Jellyspot account and no Jellyspot server holding your content. We cannot read your journal, see your location history or recover your data, because we never receive it.

What the app collects, and where it goes
Jellyspot reads several kinds of information from your device in order to build your timeline. Each is optional and requires your permission. In every case the information is written to Jellyspot’s own storage on that device and stays there. Jellyspot does not sync your data to iCloud or any other cloud service.
Location and motion
Jellyspot records your location in the background, so visits, journeys and trips appear on your timeline without you doing anything. Motion data is used to tell walking, cycling and driving apart. Location history is stored on your device only.
Photos and camera
Jellyspot reads your photo library — the date, location and other metadata attached to each photo — so photos can be placed on the right day and at the right place. Only references are stored, never the photos themselves. Photos you take or documents you scan inside Jellyspot are stored in Jellyspot’s local storage.
Health
Jellyspot reads step counts and workouts from Apple Health so they can be shown on your timeline. It never writes to Health, and health data is never transmitted off the device.
Contacts
If you allow it, Jellyspot reads your contacts so you can connect a person you mention to a contact, or name a friend’s home after them. Contacts are not copied anywhere else.
Journal entries, people and notes
Anything you write, photograph, tag or note in Jellyspot is stored locally. It is not backed up to us, not indexed by us, and not visible to anyone but you. Entries may be added to your iPhone’s own Spotlight index so you can find them from the system search; that index stays on your device.
Journaling Suggestions
If you use Apple’s Journaling Suggestions, the suggestion you choose is handed to Jellyspot by iOS and stored as an entry on your device. Jellyspot never sees suggestions you don’t pick.
How your data is analysed
On your device
Recognising places, grouping visits into trips, grouping faces and tagging older photos all run entirely on your iPhone. Face data never leaves the device.
Apple Intelligence
If Apple Intelligence is turned on, Jellyspot uses Apple’s Foundation Models to write day summaries, answer search questions, describe photos and suggest entries. These requests run on your device, or — for heavier requests — on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. Private Cloud Compute processes a request only to answer it, does not store it, and is not accessible to Apple or to us. Nothing is sent to Cloudy Day AB, and your data is never used to train models.
Information that does leave your device
Besides Private Cloud Compute above, there are two narrow exceptions, and this is all of them.
1. Apple Maps and Apple Weather lookups
To turn a coordinate into a place name, to find nearby places, to draw a map or to show what the weather was, Jellyspot sends that coordinate to Apple’s Maps and Weather services. These requests are not linked to a Jellyspot identity. Apple’s handling of this data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
2. Anonymous usage analytics
Jellyspot uses Aptabase, an open-source, privacy-focused analytics service hosted in the European Union, to understand how the app is used. The events sent are limited to app activity, such as:
- App launches and first launch
- Which screen was opened (the screen’s name — never its contents)
- How long common tasks took, such as loading the timeline
- Subscription events: a purchase started, succeeded or failed, and status changes
These events carry no location, no photos, no journal text, no health data, no names, no email address and no advertising identifier. Aptabase does not use cookies or persistent device identifiers, uses a session identifier that changes regularly, and does not track users across apps. We use this only to see which parts of the app are worth improving.
Purchases
Jellyspot Pro is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple processes the payment and holds the payment details; we never see your card number, billing address or Apple Account. We receive only the anonymous purchase events described above, and aggregate sales reporting from Apple. Subscription terms are governed by the Apple Standard EULA, and you can manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings under your name → Subscriptions.
What we never do
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal information.
- We do not run advertising or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not build profiles of you or use your data to train models.
- We do not require an account, an email address or any sign-in.
Your control over your data
- Turn any source off. Location, Photos, Contacts, Camera, Motion and Notifications can each be revoked at any time in iOS Settings, and Health in the Health app. Jellyspot keeps working with less information.
- Delete everything. Settings → Reset and start over deletes everything Jellyspot has gathered. Deleting the app from your iPhone also deletes its data. Because we hold no copy, deletion is complete and irreversible.
- Back up on your terms. Jellyspot’s data is included in your device backups if you have them enabled. Those backups are handled by Apple, not by us.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability over personal data a company holds about you. In Jellyspot’s case, the practical answer to most of these is that we hold no personal data about you to begin with — your content is in your hands, on your device. The anonymous analytics described above are not linked to you and cannot be traced back to you, so they cannot be retrieved or deleted individually.
If you believe we hold something about you and want it addressed, contact privacy@jellyspot.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority; in Sweden this is IMY.
Children
Jellyspot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
This website
jellyspot.com is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and embeds no third-party trackers. Your web host’s standard server logs may record ordinary request information such as IP address and browser type.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects how your information is handled, note it in the app.
